To cut or not to cut?

Actually, that isn't  the question. The black on white quilted piece shown in progress last week, is now finished. The question is, how do I cut it up?

I admit, I am very nervous now. If I get this wrong, a lot of work will to to waste, so for the moment I am still working with my paper layouts. Here are some more.

The shapes are quite nice, but the layout gives a very boring negative space...

so a couple of different arrangements...

a few more with a kind of 'zipper' effect, playing around with the amount of separation between the right and left sides...

or in alignment...like this one, interesting negatives spaces...

could this be the one???

thanks for dropping by...

  1. Oh wow this is amazing, i too would be scared to cut this up. Have you thought about leaving it whole and doing a large border surround in your charcoals shapes = square within a square. large style , the border has interest but still draws focus to your wonderful quilting. Whatever you decide it will look fab

  4. I like your approach! The shapes and their negative space look really interesting - not sure which I like best but I'm sure whichever you choose will look great.
Thanks for your comment on my quilt. I probably need more practise at FMQ as you've been doing.

  13. I like the last one as it is orderly but has variations that are interesting with the shapes. How are you going to incorporate the quilted piece? Is is the white or black pieces? Oh you are on to something here!

  15. Too many ideas and too little time. I still think your brave to cut up the quilted piece. It's a work of art in it's own right.

  16. Just adding a black binding would make for a striking piece, although all of your ideas are great, too.

  18. Wow! So you are going to have the black be the quilted parts cut up? And they go on a black background? I cants wait to see how this comes out. I think I am attracted to the vertical ones the most. I like the first one of those the best. Keep us posted on what happens :-)
